Tributes paid to Gidugu Ramamurthy

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Glowing tributes were paid to Gidugu Ramamurthy, one of the earliest modern Telugu linguists and social visionary, at meetings held all over the State on his 142nd birth anniversary on Monday. Speakers at a "sadassu," organised in his memory by Telugu Chaitanya Samiti in Telugu University at Public Gardens, recalled how Gidigu gave social base to Telugu literature, and the social service done by him to tribals, especially "Savaras," in Parlakimidi area of Srikakualm forest belt.

A.B.K. Prasad, chairman, Official Languages Commission, who chaired the sadassu, said one fitting tribute could be installation of his statue at Hyderabad and Srikakulam.
