Football trials

BANGALORE: Selection trials for the Karnataka sub-junior under-16 football team will be held at the Football Stadium from Sept. 1. Players born on or after January 1, 1990 can take part in the trials.

NSD celebrated

The National Sports Day, to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Dhyan Chand, was celebrated jointly by the Sports Authority of India (Southern Centre), the Bangalore University and National Law School with a 2-km run.

Besides a large number of sportsmen and women, the faculty and students of National Law School and the Bangalore University, and some prominent Olympians and Arjuna and Ekalavya awardees participated in the run.

K.C. Ramamurthy, director of sports and youth services and Dr. G. Kishore, Director SAI (Southern Centre) flagged off the race.

Two in Indian team

J. Pradeep and Ramamurthy of Karnataka have been included in the 15-member Indian squad for the Turkmenistan international taekwondo championship to be held at Askabad, Turkmenistan from September 3 to 9.

Karavali Chess Challenge

Derik's Chess School (Mangalore) is hosting the Karavali Chess Challenge, a one-day inter-district open rapid chess tournament on Sept. 4 at the Examination Hall of Kasturba Medical College.

Players from Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Chikmagalur, Coorg and Kasargod are eligible to participate.

AITA talent series

Mysore Tennis Club, under the aegis of the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA), will be conducting its AITA talent series junior tennis tournament for under-14 and under-16 boys and girls at the Mysore Tennis Club courts, Chamarajapuram, from Sept. 10 to 15.
