Withdraw white ration card clause, says Sayanna

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The condition that those seeking white ration cards should have their children studying in Government schools puzzled many at the DRC meeting.

Cantonment MLA G. Sayanna felt the condition was unfair and wanted it to be withdrawn forthwith. Major Irrigation Minister and DRC Chairman Ponnala Lakshmaiah said that he would bring the member's concern to the notice of the Government. He said 1.40 lakh white cards were issued in 11 municipalities. Specific cases of denial of ration cards, if any, could be brought to his notice and justice would be done.

Malakpet MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy said the quality of the multipurpose ration cards being issued was poor.

Zilla Parishad Chairman K. Gnaneswar wanted the Government to release funds for construction of schools and classrooms in the district.

The Minister said that Rs. 2.68 crores accrued through auction of lands was with the district administration. Government's permission would be sought for diversion of this amount for construction of school buildings, he noted.

Referring to the lack of facilities in social welfare hostels, Hareeshwar Reddy, Pargi MLA, said in many hostels there were no kitchen sheds and food is being cooked under the trees.
