Direction to Centre on crop insurance
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Nauvdip Kumar Sodhi and Justice N. Kumar on Thursday directed the Union Government to take a decision by December 31 on the revised crop insurance scheme so that the difficulties faced by farmers will be expeditiously remedied.
The Bench was hearing petitions by Suresh Gopal M. and others, all farmers from Haliyal, Mundgod and Sirsi taluks, on the problems being faced by those who have insured their crops under the scheme. The State Government told the court that it had received suggestions from the farmers and forwarded them to the Centre. The Union Government had said that the suggestions from all States have been placed before a group.
