Shubha betters National mark

BANGLAORE: Six meet records and one National mark was bettered on Thursday, the opening day of the Karnataka aquatics championship at the KCR pool here.

The talented Shubha Chittanjan of BAC, came up with the best performance of the day in the 50 m butterfly with an effort of 29.87 seconds, which lowered the National record of 30.55 seconds set by Richa Misra of Police in 2003 Nationals at Kolkata. In the process, Shubha also erased a seven-year-old State mark of 30.74 seconds set by Meghana Narayan (1998).

The other record makers of the day included Shikha Tandon of KCR in the women's 50 m freestyle (27.12 secs), Rohit R. Hawladar of BAC in1500 m freestyle (17: 03.81), Rehan Poncha of BAC in 400 m individual medley (4:48.82), J.P. Arjun of BAC in 50 m breaststroke (31.69), N.A. Sandeep of BAC in 100 m backstroke (1:02.96) and BAC `A' men's team in the 4 x 200 m freestyle relay (8:23.48).
