BANGALORE: Bhavana Shetty signalled her intentions of making a strong bid for the title in the DT Southern India Ladies Amateur Open golf tournament, with an impressive card of two over 74 in the third round. In the process, the Mysore teenager took a six-stroke lead over Irina Brar and Sharmila Nicollet, who was the overnight leader. Shruti Khanna is one stroke behind Brar and Nicollet. Shetty started off with a bogey on the first hole and with a series of pars till the seventh where she again dropped a stroke to end the first half two over. Her back nine scores had three birdies (10th, 11th & 14th) but all the good work was nullified with a double bogey (15th) and another bogey on the last hole. It was a dismal day for Nicollet, the leader for the first two days. She began with a double bogey and bogeyed four on the first nine. The inward journey too was a similar card with two double bogeys and two bogeys. The card of 12 over saw her surrender her lead and settle for joint second, along with Brar. Dhanalakshmi Rice seems to have the silver division title firmly in her grasp with a solid 14-stoke lead over Ankita Tiwana.
Aryka triumphs

The scores: Gold Division (0-12 handicap): Bhavana Shetty (78, 80, 74) 232; Irina Brar (78, 80, 80) and Sharmila Nicollet (74, 80, 84) 238 each; Shruti Khanna (87, 77, 75) 239; Vandana Aggarwal (82, 82, 80) and Shradanjali Singh (78, 82, 84) 244 each.
