Joint Action Committee chalks out action plan

  • Unions plan meetings to explain reasons for strike
  • The JAC wanted State to reimburse concessions
  • Cabinet panel non-committal on their demands

HYDERABAD: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of APSRTC Unions has announced that it will go ahead with its plans and serve strike notice on September 8.

The JAC met here on Thursday to chalk out its action plan. It was decided to wait as the other formalities like the 14-day waiting period and statutory conciliation meeting has to be observed.

Meanwhile, the JAC leaders said the intervening days between the strike notice and day on which the strike begins would be utilised to meet people and hold meetings in every district headquarters. They would explain how the Government had gone back on its promises and how the Cabinet sub-committee has been unwilling to concede the demands put forth by the JAC.

Keeping these in mind, the JAC leaders -- Syed Mehmood (National Mazdoor Union), B. Rama Rao (Employees Union), B. Nageswara Rao (Transport Mazdoor Sangh) and R. Lakshmaiah (Staff and Workers Federation) -- decided to serve the notice on September 8.

"We anyway have to wait until the municipal elections are over. As the poll code of conduct is in force, we know the Government cannot commit itself on any of our demands," said B. Rama Rao of the APSRTC Employees Union.

On August 31, the JAC had asked the Government to release the balance Rs. 260 crores towards total reimbursement of concessions and also take the responsibility of 50 per cent of the corporation's Rs. 1,350-crore debt burden. However, the Cabinet sub-committee refused to give commitment on these demands, forcing the JAC to go ahead with its agitation.
