669 candidates file papers for civic polls

Fourtyfour nominations filed in Vikarabad Municipality

HYDERABAD:
As many as 669 candidates filed papers for the municipal elections in 96 municipalities and 11 municipal corporations on Thursday, the first day of filing nominations.
According to the State Election Commission (SEC), 536 candidates filed their nominations for municipal wards while 131 submitted their papers for the municipal divisions. No nominations were filed in 27 municipalities and one nomination each was filed in 10 other civic bodies. Elections to 2,936 wards in 96 municipalities and 564 divisions in 11 corporations will be held on September 24.
The highest number of 44 nominations were filed in Vikarabad municipality followed by 39 (Vizianagaram), 38 (Jagtiyal) and 32 (Siddipet). In all, 130 candidates filed their nomination papers on behalf of the Congress followed by 113 (TDP), 46 (BJP), TRS (9) and CPI (M) (1) and others (237).
For the 11 municipal corporations, 133 candidates filed their papers. Forty nominations were filed on behalf of the Congress, 29 (TDP), nine (BJP), 2 (TRS) and others (53). Karimnagar Municipal Corporation received 43 nominations while none filed their nominations for Nizamabad Municipal Corporation.
