DUTA goes the Left way

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The red flag made a sweeping comeback to Delhi University on Wednesday with the Left-backed Democratic Teachers' Front (DTF) candidate Amar Deo Sharma defeating the Congress-supported AAD-INTEC combine's Sizauddin Siddique to win the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) elections.

A Reader in Hindi at the Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, Mr. Sharma reportedly polled around 1,400 votes, his nearest contender being INTEC's Sizauddin Siddique, an English teacher in Aurobindo College.

"I am thankful to the teachers for coming out in support of the issues and concerns raised by us. As the new representative of Delhi University's 6,000-odd teachers I would like to take everyone along as we raise issues critical to us and the University environment,'' said Mr. Sharma soon after his victory.
