Buddhist delegation meets Kalam

NEW DELHI: A Buddhist peace delegation consisting of six Members of Parliament from six States in the Himalayan region led by Pratibha Singh, MP, and Prof. Swami Buddhanand called on the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, here earlier this week to seek his support for the proposed Buddhist University in Himachal Pradesh.

During its discussion with the President, the delegation stressed that it would be more appropriate to locate the university in the Himalayan region where Lord Buddha was born. "The ideal location would be Dharamshala which is already known to the world as an international city of enlightenment."

According to Prof.Buddhanand, the President welcomed the idea of the proposed university and wished the delegation success. The delegation included Nakul Dass Rai (Sikkim), Tapir Gao (Arunachal Pradesh), K.C. Baba Singh (Uttaranchal), Bachi Singh Rawat (Uttaranchal), and Narbula (Darjeeling).
