GOHANA (HARYANA): Even as the situation remained tense here in Valmiki Basti, the police have not been able to make any arrests in the case so far. The Inspector-General of Police (Rohtak Range), V.N. Rai, said the police were on the lookout for all the 23 people, including the son and brother of the Member of Parliament from Sonepat, Kishan Singh Sangwan. While many residents claimed that their family members had left the Basti and were staying in the houses of their relatives, the police claimed that only the family members of the accused in a murder case had fled the Basti to avoid arrest. "Most of the people are still in the Basti. They have also been assured of all security," said Mr. Rai. Meanwhile, a delegation comprising Communist Party of India (Marxist) politburo member Brinda Karat, Rajya Sabha MP, Dipankar Mukherjee, CPI (M) State secretary, Indrajit Singh, and other leaders visited Gohana village on Thursday. They alleged that the attack was pre-planned and that the administration was acting in connivance with the perpetrators of violence. The delegation demanded immediate suspension of the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police.
Sonia may visit Gohana
According to a PTI report, Congress President Sonia Gandhi is likely to visit Gohana soon. ``Let the passions calm down first'', highly placed party sources said.
