Actor Y.Gee. Mahendra always tries to project old melodious numbers in all his projects. After the success of earlier musical extravaganzas--"Kannadasanai Potri", "Kannadasanum Iru Thilakangalum" and "Kalathai Vendravargal," Y.Gee. Mahendra is pushing ahead with a new concept of G.R. muthal A.R. varai. He says it will be an unforgettable musical journey for everyone. "We have selected some 52 songs from the time of legend G. Ramanathan to A.R. Rahman." In this musical journey, one can hear songs composed by C.R. Subbaraman, Papanasam Sivan, Aadhi Narayan Rao, Rajeswar Rao, Subbiah Naidu, Viswananthan Ramamurthy, K.V. Mahadevan, A.M. Raja, Veda, V. Kumar, Shankar Ganesh and Ilayaraja. This concert is with full piece orchestra of Y.Gee. Melody makers. The singers are Srinivas, T.L. Maharajan, Malathy Lakshman, Kalpana and Prasanna Ragavendhar, Sudha Mahendra and Ananthanarayanan. The programme starts at 5 p.m. on Sunday at Kamarajar Arangam. Among musicians who have been behind the success of evergreen songs to be honoured on the occasion include V. Nanjuindaiya (flute), Raju (veena and mandolin), Das Daniel (keyboard), Prasad (tabla), Philip (guitar), and Madurai Cheenakutty (mridangam). S. Janaki, T.M. Soundararajan and P.B. Srinivas will grace the occasion. N. Ravi, Editor, The Hindu , will be the chief guest. The programme is organised by Airtel in association with Abbas and Madhu Enterprises. S.R. Ashok Kumar
