CHENNAI: As Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) entered its Golden Jubilee Year on Thursday, Chennai Division-2 inaugurated its refurbished city branch office 31 in United India Nagar, Ayanavaram. V.P. Rajamurthi, Chief Engineer, Southern Zone, LIC of India, inaugurated the branch and shared his dreams of building `an IT corridor' on Mount Road. ``We plan to use the land next to the LIC building to build infrastructure and provide an IT corridor in the heart of the city within the next two years," he said. P. Annadurai, Senior Divisional Manager, reiterated the dedication of Chennai Division-2 to providing insurance cover for one lakh girls for marriage endowment and the same number of policies for education as part of their commitment to social causes. He lauded Mr. Rajamurthi for purchasing the first policy and said they hoped to touch the 25,000 mark shortly. He recalled LIC's consistent contributions to the Five-Year Plans and its growth in assets since its inception in 1956-57. "We are also settling roughly 1.9 claims a second." Other special projects for the Golden Jubilee include opening 29 satellite centres in outlying regions. In Chennai, two satellite centres where customers can make premium payments and get proposals underwritten will be opened in Porur and Avadi on Monday.
