CHENNAI: The Centre's sanction to prosecute two IAS officers in the alleged "flyover scam" is being awaited even as the charge sheet submitted by the Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CB CID) is pending before a city court. The charge sheet has not been taken on file yet and the investigating agency has been granted time by the court for submitting the sanction papers with regard to the two officers, official sources said. Four years after the First Information Report in the case was registered, the police special unit presented the charge sheet to the court of the VI Additional Sessions Judge, on May 26. As the court of the Principal Judge (PJ) was closed for the summer vacation, the charge sheet was submitted to the court of the in-charge Judge and later sent to the court of the PJ where the FIR was filed. Nearly 35 persons figure in the final report. They have been charged with offences under sections 120-B, 409 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The police special unit has sent a list of 15 Executive Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers and Assistant Engineers to the Chennai Corporation, recommending criminal proceedings. A retired Executive Engineer has also been charged. Among those who figure in the charge sheet are, P. Kolappan, a former Commissioner of the Chennai Corporation, and S. Malathi, a former Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department.
