Timber worth Rs. 50 lakhs seized in raids near Dindigul

DINDIGUL: Following a directive from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court

to the District Forest Office, revenue officials in Dindigul town launched a major crackdown on illegal felling of trees and seized more than 35 lorry loads of timber worth Rs. 50 lakhs in Sirumalai hill on Thursday.

A special team led by the Dindigul Revenue Divisional Officer, A. Santhosham raided interior villages at the foothills of Vellimalai and many villages, including Agasthiapuram, Pudhur and Thenmalai.
