Put aside self-interest: Lyngdoh
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
The former Chief Election Commissioner, J. M. Lyngdoh, has exhorted people to rise above self-interest and work for the prosperity of the country.
Though one can serve the nation in many ways, the goal should never be for achieving name or fame. The desire or involvement in selfish aims, even in the slightest way, will inevitably tarnish the image and render them irrelevant to the public, he said. He was delivering the foundation day lecture on `Ethics and governance' organised by the National Academy of Agricultural Research and Management on Thursday.
Stressing the need for governance and ethics to go hand in hand, he said while following the principles of governance, one should maintain distance from elements that were likely to come in the way of their ethical philosophy. "No matter how powerful the ideology of an advanced nation, our country should not be subservient to it," he said. The NAARM director, S. Prakash Tiwari, welcomed the participants and R.K. Samanta, joint director, NAARM, proposed the vote of thanks.
