This Day That Age
General S.M. Shrinagesh, Chief of Staff, Indian Army, was on September 1 awarded one of the highest US decorations which may be bestowed on a foreign military officer---the Legion of Merit, Degree of Commander. Gen. Shrinagesh, who arrived in Washington on September 1 morning for two weeks of conferences and visits to military installations, received the award when he called on the US Army Chief of Staff, Gen. Maxwell D. Taylor. The Indian Army Chief later visited the Arlington National Cemetery where he placed a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
