THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala on Friday demanded a probe into the utilisation of the Rs. 10.54-crore Swiss aid under the People's Plan programme during the LDF rule. The amount was made available by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) for improving the infrastructure facilities at the Kerala Institute for Local Administration and payment of salaries under the Capacity Development for Decentralisation in Kerala (Capdek), according to the former Planning Board member Dr. Thomas Issac, MLA, who had listed out the objectives of Capdec in his book Janakiya Asootranathinete Rashtriyam. However, it has now come to light that the Capdek project did not have the Planning Board's sanction. The CPI(M) polit bureau had earlier pointed out that the project managers had failed to get the sanction of the party prior to accepting the Swiss aid, Mr. Chennithala said at a press conference. He said that records showed that only Rs. 2.91 crores was allocated to the KILA under the project.
