CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday announced compensation for the affected families whose houses had been damaged in the violence at Gohana near Sonepat. Making the announcement in New Delhi where he is admitted in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Mr. Hooda said the Election Commission of India had accepted the Government's request and allowed it to announce relief. Making such announcements requires the Commission's permission as it has imposed the Model Code of Conduct in view of the Rohtak Lok Sabha by-election due later this month. Mr. Hooda said that the entire cost of restoration of the damaged houses of the affected persons would be borne by the State Government. The repair or restoration work would be carried out by the State Public Works(Building and Roads) Department. The district administration had been directed to provide food, water and medical aid to the affected families immediately. The Government had decided to constitute a committee consisting of Executive Engineer, Public Works (B and R) Department and Tehsildar concerned to assess the loss of properties or articles in the houses damaged due to arson on Wednesday. They would submit their report within a week. Meanwhile, in order to meet the immediate requirements of the victims, the Deputy Commissioner has been directed to give an ad hoc grant of Rs. 5,000 per affected family.
