NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to speed up the request for allotment of land for construction of a new Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Narela in North-West Delhi to take care of traffic entering the Capital from Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice R.S. Sodhi
Clearance
When Ms. Kohli submitted that after the allotment of land, the city Government would take three months to carry out a survey, the Bench directed DDA to approach the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi and get his clearance for the allotment of land within four weeks.
The Bench said that DDA could approach the Lieutenant Governor for expediting the allotment of land, as he is also its ex-officio Chairman.
The Bench has been hearing a public interest litigation seeking directions to the Delhi Government for decongesting city traffic.
Affidavit
The city Government in its affidavit said that DDA had earlier allotted land for the project to be completed in 2008 but it was found unsuitable. Thereafter, the DDA officials along with the officials of the Delhi Government had carried out a fresh survey and then DDA was repeatedly requested to allot another piece of land but it was still pending with it.
Decongest
The affidavit further said that the city Government would build another ISBT at Dwarka in South-West Delhi and the ISBT at Sarai Kale Khan would be upgraded to decongest IBST, Kashmere Gate. ISBT, Anand Vihar is fully operational and takes care of buses coming from Uttranchal and Uttar Pradesh, the affidavit said.
