NEW DELHI: Delhiites had to face long hours of power cuts on Friday due to a huge shortfall in supply from the Northern Grid, besides shutting down of at least a couple of generating units in the Capital. For the past few days, Delhi has been facing a power crunch mainly due to frequency problems in the Grid following the shutting down of some generating units in Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. On Friday, the peak demand in the Capital stood at 3,252 MW, while the Delhi Transco Limited had to resort to 317 MW of load-shedding. For the past couple of days, shortfall in supply had crossed 300 MW. Moreover, shutting down of at least one unit each in Indraprastha and Rajghat power plants in the Capital has further aggravated the crisis. The problem could have been worse had the Transco failed to arrange for additional supply from Andhra Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, said a Transco spokesperson.
