Modern rice mill in Tiruvarur inspected

Grievances over PDS can be conveyed to Collector or DSO: Minister

TIRUVARUR: The Minister for Food and Cooperation, Pollachi V. Jayaraman, on Friday inspected the modern rice mill of Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation here and reviewed its performance.

He told presspersons later that the mill had hulled 13,630 tonnes of paddy during 2004-2005.

From April to August this year, it had hulled 9000 tonnes. He expressed satisfaction over the performance of the mill. He checked quality of the rice hulled.

He said that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has ordered supply of quality rice to fair price shops. Rice was being supplied in instalments instead of at one go to help the people in fair price shops.

The people could always convey their grievances, if any, regarding the public distribution system to the Collector, District Supply Officer and, if there is a need, to him also either over phone or through letter. The grievances would be redressed immediately.

He asked officials and the Collector to inspect fair price shops periodically and ensure proper supply of ration to the people.

P. Ekambaram, Tiruvarur Collector, R. Kamraj, MP, Srinivasan, Senior Regional Manager, TNCSC, accompanied the Minister during his visit.
