Parties warned against using Ganesh utsav for campaign

Staff Reporter

WARANGAL: District Collector Benhur Ekka has warned political parties against using the Ganesh Utsav for campaign for municipal elections.

At a meeting convened with officials of various departments and representatives of Ganesh Utsav committees, the Collector said the district administration would extend all its cooperation for peaceful and smooth conduct of the celebrations.

He urged all those involved in the event to cooperate with the Government machinery. He warned individuals and organisations against forcible collection of donations and requested the public to lodge a complaint by directly calling up the collector's office or Police control room.

Talking to representatives of various political parties, Mr. Ekka said the Ganesh celebrations were a sensitive issue and none should try to gain political mileage out of it. He said anybody using the Ganesh pandals for campaign would attract cases under election code and a serious action would follow.
