MADURAI: Madurai Airport has bagged the coveted ISO 9001:2000 certification for its operations, including air traffic management and passenger facilities. The certificate came into effect from March 2005, K. Ramalingam, Regional Executive Director, Airports Authority of India, told reporters here on Saturday. "This only certifies the commitment of the service provider to passengers," he said. Among the services that have been certified are air traffic management, communication, navigation and surveillance service, security and passenger facilities. Madurai is the third airport in the State to get the certificate next to Chennai and Coimbatore. Tiruchi Airport is expected to get it by the end of the year, he said. Dr. Ramalingam, who was here to review various construction activities at the airport, said works were going on as per schedule, but for disruption caused by monsoon. "The runway extension work will be completed by March, as against the original schedule of July," he said. The apron extension work, aimed at accommodating two additional aircraft, would be finished by December. The layout for the isolation bay has been finalised and it would be completed along with the construction of an additional taxiway, he said. Installation of instrumental landing system was under way, Dr. Ramalingam said.
