LIGHTING UP THEIR FUTURE: Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh inaugurating the Children's World Congress on Child Labour and Education in New Delhi on Sunday.

NEW DELHI: A Pakistani boy who worked as a camel jockey, an Ethiopian girl exposed to sexual exploitation, a Banjara boy rescued from a stone-crushing unit in Rajasthan and others will share their experiences at the Children's World Congress on Child Labour that was inaugurated by Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh here on Sunday.

The 15-year-old labourer from Rajasthan was in the spotlight at the inaugural function after he urged for a new world free of child labour and education for all.

Intended to provide a platform for children and child rights activists around the world to share and learn from their struggle, the 2nd Children's World Congress on Child Labour and Education is being organised by Global March Against Child Labour and hosted by its Indian partner Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA).

Representatives from 30 countries are participating in the four-day event.

Mr. Singh regretted that child labour continued to exist across the world and announced that a charter for children, including all things considered necessary for them, would be introduced in the winter session of Parliament. — PTI
