CITU concerned over move to merge printing presses, mints
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has expressed concern over the Government decision to merge all security printing presses and minting units into a corporation.
In the liberalised economic policy regime, the previous cases of corporatisation were a prelude to privatisation.
The CITU believes that the objectives stated in operation and management could be attained by keeping the establishment as a Government Department.
"After the `Telgi affair', what is needed is strict vigilance and more control by Government. All fake currencies in circulation in India have been printed by one or the other private currency printing presses outside the country," the statement said. It demanded reversal of the decision.
