HEFEI: Torrential rains and landslips caused by typhoon Talim claimed 53 lives and left 12 persons missing in east China's Anhui Province, official sources said on Sunday. Typhoon-inflicted disasters have affected some 5.21 million persons, forcing the relocation of more than 390,000 residents, according to the officials. The disasters also destroyed 33,600 houses and affected more than 313,000 hectares of cropland in the province, resulting in $290 million in direct losses. The provincial government has launched an emergency disaster relief scheme, including rescue of the injured, epidemic prevention, resuming production and rebuilding residential houses. The typhoon pounded the Province on Thursday afternoon with strong winds, forcing local schools, roads and airports to close. Xinhua
