PONDICHERRY: Under its social outreach programme for the underprivileged youth, the Confederation of Indian Industry, Southern Chapter will give training to around 200 youths in developing their skills so as to make them take employment in various sectors by April next year. The training would be given to the youth in developing accounting skills, English communication skill, computers and tailoring. The programme extending to six months would by undertaken by an NGO at Auroville, ParasuRaman R, Chairman, CII Southern Region told reporters here on Saturday. The CII has entered into an understanding with City and Guilds, UK, to give certificates to the trainees. The course would commence by the end of this month. The training programme for the youth in Pondicherry is part of CII's initiative to cover 10 lakh economically deprived youth of the country by 2010. The Southern Region has chalked out a plan to train 5000 such youths in the coming few months, the Chairman said. Outlining CII's other intervention programmes for the territory, he said the Industry would help in the upgradation of ITI at Mettupalayam. In this programme, the ITI's curriculum would be modernised as per industry requirements, provide exposure to and skill based training to faculty members.
