Somnath elected to Commonwealth panel

NADI (FIJI): Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has been appointed to a 11-member body of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) to choose a new Secretary General.

The three-day meeting of the executive, which concluded here on Sunday, discussed matters relating to the revamp of the CPA Secretariat and took key decisions, a official statement said.

The executive met ahead of the 51st CPA conference beginning here from Tuesday.

The conference would elect a new Chairman on September 9, the concluding day, for a term of three years. — PTI
