SRIKAKULAMKAKINADA: On the penultimate day of filing nominations on Sunday, as many as 138 candidates -- most of them party candidates -- filed their nominations in the municipalities of Srikakulam, Amadalavalasa and Itchapuram, which together have 82 wards. With this, the total number of nominations in the three municipalities in the district went up to 172. The number of nominations filed on Sunday by Congress candidates for Srikakulam municipality is 27, followed by 20 by the TDP, 4 by the BJP and 2 by the CPI (M). A feature of the Congress is that the party had not announced candidates' names officially as the PCC is yet to clear the list sent by the party's election committee. This, according to party sources, is done as a matter of strategy also. In Itchapuram municipality, where the Congress is facing the problem of groupism between party MLA Naresh Kumar Agarwal alias Lallu and senior leader M.V. Krishna Rao, 15 candidates filed their nomination. From the TDP, 21 had filed nominations, followed by 7 by the BJP. Similarly 19 TDP candidate filed nominations in Amadalavalasa municipality followed by 9 by the Congress. Five CPM candidates three in Amadalalvalasa and two in Srikakulam also filed their nominations on Sunday.
