BANGALORE: Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh on Monday directed the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to appoint consultants to study the possibility of diverting excess rainwater from lakes in Bommanahalli and K.R. Puram city municipal councils (CMCs). Addressing presspersons after inspecting the rain-affected areas under the two CMCs, the Chief Minister pointed out that the lakes overflowed because there was no mechanism to drain out the excess water. "After inspecting the areas, I observed that most layouts have been developed on lakebeds. Pai Layout in K.R. Puram was flooded because water from small lakes in the vicinity flowed into the K.R. Puram lake, which overflowed. We should think of ways to drain out the excess water," he said. Mr. Dharam Singh said the Government is aware of the problems faced by the residents of the CMCs, and efforts will be made to build basic infrastructure in these areas. "We have already chalked out a plan to provide drinking water to the CMC residents under the Greater Bangalore Water Supply Project."
