HYDERABAD: Almost four years ago, the traffic police had decided to shift the Kasu Brahmananda Reddy statue near the NTR Trust Bhavan in Jubilee Hills from its present rotary onto the newly-built pedestal in front of KBR Park.

Today, it still remains a proposal and as a result, the statue continues to be right in the middle of the road causing a bottleneck for thousands of vehicles that come from Jubilee Hills check-post side towards Indo-American Cancer Hospital.

It was after consultations with various departments that the authorities had decided to shift the statue to facilitate smoother flow of traffic at the junction, especially to the vehicles moving towards the hospital side.

    Motorists' problem

Presently, the motorists have to slow down and take a curve from the rotary.

"Our Chief Minister is viewing the traffic problem very seriously. I think bottlenecks like these should be removed first, so that the traffic flow is smooth without a hitch," says a resident of Journalist Colony in Jubilee Hills. "Over the last few days, there has been so much talk about improving the traffic in the city. The authorities should shift the statue immediately as it will help in free flow of vehicles," says a businessman.

Former Traffic DCP K. Sreenivas Reddy had even taken the approval of Brahmananda Reddy's family members and other Congress leaders (the Telugu Desam Party was in power then) before deciding to shift the statue. The shifting process was to cost around Rs. 1 lakh.

A traffic police official, who does not want to be quoted, says that shifting of the statue will be done in the next few months. "Once the road-widening works are over, it will be taken up." The statue of the former Chief Minister was installed 10 years ago.
