ONGOLE: The CPI assistant secretary, Lakshminarayana, has appealed to the APCC to give directions to its local units to expedite seat adjustments in the interest of keeping the unity among secular democratic parties and to defeat the TDP in the ensuing municipal elections. Speaking to newspersons here today, Mr. Lakshminarayana said that the CPI wanted to contest from only 170 wards in 75 municipalities. But it could reach an agreement in only 100 wards till now. He said that the local units of the Congress were adopting a rigid stand in some districts making it difficult for the Left parties to finalise seat adjustments. He pointed out that the Congress had refused even sitting seats to the CPI in Kadapa and Krishna districts. He said that the CPI would have no obligation to support the Congress candidates in municipalities where they failed to reach an agreement on seat sharing. Also, it would have no obligation to extend support to the Congress in the election of chairman in such municipalities.
