ELURU: The nine-day Vinayaka Chaviti scheduled from Wednesday comes handy for wily politicos to woo voters in the run up to municipal elections. Huge hoardings have already sprung up at vantage points in the city with the contesting candidates conveying greetings to people (read as voters) with folded hands. Out to grab the opportunity, many `enterprising' candidates are preparing the ground to celebrate the festival with their own funds in their respective wards. According to information, some candidates have volunteered to donate Rs 2,000 to the local festival committees for purchase of Vinayaka idols in their respective areas. Several candidates are said to be quite liberal in offering donations to the enthusiastic youth engaged in the celebrations.
