Heartburn over denial of tickets leads to protests

Correspondent

Dissatisfaction high among senior party leaders

KAKINADA: The denial of ticket has caused serious heartburn to several senior party workers both in Congress and also the Telugu Desam who chose to stage protest demonstrations and also dharnas at their respective party offices on Tuesday.

Mosa Kalamma, former councillor and Varipalli Satyanarayana alias China Swamy, staunch supporters of MLA Gopalakrishna, commenced a dharna in front of the Congress party office blaming their leaders for betraying them. Both of them alleged that ticket was promised to them all these days but all of a sudden those who were not in the party grabbed ticket from the MLA under extraneous considerations.

Seek justice

They warned that the party has to face serious consequences for the betrayal in the municipal elections. They hoped that the party leadership would set right the situation and render justice to senior workers in the interests of the party.

The Telugu Desam Party faced similar protests from the Madiga Hakkula Dandora for denial of party ticket to Dandora workers. A group of Dandora workers led by Angara Nerellu staged protests at the Telugu Desam office by sounding the instrument `Dappu' and raising their voice against the injustice meted out to them.

They demanded that Muppidi John Kennedy, a former councillor, be given the ticket even at the last minute for the seventh ward as sought by them.

Threat by supporters

They handed over a protest letter to the party office secretary, Yanamadala Ravi, threatening to work against the Telugu Desam Partu if their demand was not conceded.

These protest demonstrations have caused considerable embarrassment to leaders of both the Congress and Telugu Desam parties.
