Staff Correspondent

  • Available sources, including MLA, MLC, MP grants, to be tapped
  • Committee members to invite elected representatives to meetings to solve problems
  • It will also receive grievance applications and send them to the concerned for action

MADIKERI: A group of citizens in and around the Chettalli Gram Panchayat limits in Somwarpet taluk of Kodagu have formed a committee to strive to secure funds for development from various available government sources, including MLA, MLC and MP grants.

Speaking to presspersons here, the president of the Pragatipara Kriya Samiti, P.P. Dinamani, said the committee is apolitical and it aimed at developing Chettalli and surrounding villages.

Roads, drinking water, widening, drainages, sanitation in Chettalli town were some of the problems that were not attended to in the past.

The committee members would play a vital role in inviting the elected representatives to the meetings, as also officials, to deal with the difficulties of the people.

The committee would expand its activities to the district. It would monitor the quality of works as well, Mr. Dinamani said.

He said most of the people who lived in villages did not have knowledge of the government programmes and funds released to implement them.

The committee would take up the responsibility of receiving applications relating to public grievances, scrutinise them and send them to the elected representatives and officials to take action.

Mr. Dinamani said the committee comprised gram panchayat members, members representing various political parties, voluntary organisations, youth associations, temple committee members, vehicle owners association, retired officials and armed forces officers, and senior citizens, he said.

The office-bearers of the committee, Venu Madaiah, Robin Chengappa, Dilip Appachu, Teerta Kumar, Rattu Chengappa, Col. Kongettira Ponnappa (retd.), P.P. Jayananda, and B.A. Achaiah, Harish, were present.
