Warrant against ex-director of `Vasisht Wahan'

K.T. Sangameswaran

CHENNAI: A warrant has been issued against a former director of the controversial "Vasisht Wahan" project. The warrant is to be sent to the Interpol. The court will be moved to seek a similar warrant against another person, who the Central Bureau of Investigation says, is wanted in connection with the investigation.

The CBI had filed an application before the jurisdictional court, seeking the issue of a warrant against the former director, Jagdish Alagar Raja, stated to be abroad. The court granted the request a few days ago, a senior CBI officer told The Hindu . Investigation has picked up momentum with the recovery of Rs. 5 crores from a person in Bangalore, from out of the total Rs.11.67 crores allegedly misappropriated. The money had since been deposited in court, the sources said.

The CBI has obtained a warrant to be sent to the Interpol shortly. Later, the process of issuing a "red corner notice" will be taken up. The issue of the notice will enable the detention of the person concerned.

The CBI may also move the court for issuing a letter-rogatory for collecting evidence abroad. The sources said the agency already has information on the remaining amount.
