Congress leaders against `feudal control' of JD (S)

Staff Reporter

To complain to high command on issue

BANGALORE: Some of the Congress leaders, who had criticised Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh for his soft attitude towards the Janata Dal (Secular) leaders, have clarified that they are neither against his stewardship of the Government nor against the coalition arrangement.

They have been critical of what they call the "feudal control" of the Janata Dal (S) leader H.D. Deve Gowda and his son H.D. Kumaraswamy. The Chief Minister has hit back at his critics within the party.

Nine Congress leaders on Tuesday announced that they will be going to New Delhi on September 13 to draw the attention of the party leaders to the control exercised by Mr. Deve Gowda and his son.

The leaders are H.M. Revanna, A. B Maalakaraddi, Qamar-ul-Islam (all former Ministers), C.M. Lingappa, Muddahanume Gowda, L.R. Shivarame Gowda (former MLAs) and B.A. Hasanabba (MLC). They told presspersons here on Tuesday that they will hold talks with the Chief Minister before leaving for Delhi. If required they will meet party President Sonia Gandhi, they added.

Mr. Deve Gowda and Mr. Kumaraswamy have caused "sufficient damage" to the party by hijacking the achievements of the coalition Government in favour of the Janata Dal (S) and attributing even minor lapses in the Government to the Congress. They have deliberately blocked the projects such as the metro railway for the city, the formation and distribution of sites in Arkavathy Layout and the smooth registration of property, the leaders alleged.
