KARIMNAGAR: In a strange incident, district officials boycotted the Zilla Parishad general body meeting in protest against "the derogatory remarks" made against them by TRS ZPTC member B. Shoba during a discussion here on Tuesday.
The provocation
When the electricity subject was being discussed, Ms. Shoba alleged that the Transco authorities were neglecting farmers. Alleging that the Transco authorities were not coming to the rescue of people, who were killed due to the electricity shock some months ago in Shankarapatnam mandal and failed to provide ex gratia as promised, she said people would attack them if they visited villages. Irked over this, the district authorities demanded an unconditional apology from the member and when she refused to do so and again berated them for their alleged negligent attitude, the officials staged a walk-out. The Zilla Parishad chairman, K. V. Rajeshwara Rao, the Government Whip, D Sridhar, the legislators -- Jeevan Reddy, J Ratnakara rao, Mukund Reddy, E Rajender, Chada Venkat Reddy - who were present in the meeting, were dumb-struck. The ZP chairman then adjourned the House. Earlier, during the discussion on release of SRSP waters, the ZP chairman urged officials to instruct their subordinates to vacate seats for ZPTC members and mandal presidents, but in vain. Later, all ZPTC members met in the conference hall and expressed supported for the TRS member and flayed the alleged negligence of district officials in implementation of developmental works. After some time, district officials met at another place and represented the matter to the Collector, C Parthasarathi. Later, a delegation submitted a memorandum to the Collector and the ZP chairman urging them to take necessary action against the TRS member or else ensure an unconditional apology.
