Four members of a family drowned

KOCHI: Four members of a family, the father, mother and two sons, met with a tragic death in the Kundannur river on Monday evening when a country boat in they were sailing capsized near Kundannur bridge.

The victims were Babu (40) of Padannatharayil House, Kaithakkal, Nettoor, his wife Omana (35) and sons Akshay (8) and Ajeesh (5). The accident occurred when they were returning home after participating in a relative's wedding at Kundannur. The family left the wedding house at 5.30 p.m. on Monday. Since there was no news of the family till Tuesday morning, the owner of the country boat went to the relative's house in search of the boat. He later found the boat floating in an upturned position.

Following a search operation launched by the police, Fire Force personnel and local people, the bodies were found on Tuesday. Babu was a headload worker at Kundannur. Both the children were studying at St. Mary's Convent School, Thevara. The boat is said to have capsized in strong currents.
