Regularise services The assurance made by the Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Dayanidhi Maran, on restoration of appointment on compassionate grounds in the Postal Department is commendable. Similarly, if the services of Gramin Dak Sevaks (extra departmental agents) are regularised nearly 3.50lakh persons would be benefited. G.Packirisamy, Thiruthuraipundi. Poor water supply The water tax imposed by the Pudukkottai Municipality, over Rs.80 per month, is the highest in the State. But, the residents get drinking water only once in two or three days and the quantum too is meagre. The duration of supply also lasts only for a few minutes. Of late, supply is not available in many areas. Will the municipal authorities look into this urgent need? R.Ramiah, Pudukkottai. UGD coverage It is heartening to know that work on laying pipes for `underground drainage system' is in full swing at Kumbakonam. The outlet of this project goes through the Four Road Junction up to Puliampettai Panchayat, covering three Panchayat unions on its way. But, Ullur, Tepperumanallur Panchayat unions are also on its path and these areas may also be included in the project. R.Jayasankar, Kumbakonam. Fake currency detector needed In the BSNL office at Karur, subscribers who tender higher denomination currencies viz., Rs.500,Rs.1000 while remitting their bills are requested to mark their telephone number in pencil on the white portion of the notes. The BSNL assumes it an easy way to identify the fake currency later on. If a fake currency detector is installed on the counter, they can ratify the bonafide of the currency on the spot. Will BSNL come forward to keep up with latest office automations? SP.Murugappan, Karur. Ease congestion There is always a traffic jam on the road over-bridge near the railway junction in Tiruchi. The duration of the signal runs to a count of 100 while in other junctions it is 30 seconds. The passengers who want to go to the junction are warned against alighting at this point by the bus crew for fear of accidents. The authorities concerned should find out a solution to ease traffic congestion here. G.Venkatraman, Thanjavur. Stinking GH Even though the Tiruchi Government Hospital has a good reputation, the stench emanating from then toilets inside the hospital, poses a bad image.Although, many VIPS and top officials of Corporation pass through the hospital road, they have not taken any remedial measure. I request the sanitary authorities to take steps to save the patients from this menace. D.Saravanan, Tiruchi.
Thiruthuraipundi.
