Congress in piquant situation in Nellore

Staff Reporter

Anam, Nedurumali groups keen on ticket for their supporters

  • Scene now shits to Hyderabad
  • Clear picture likely only on Wednesday
  • Move to keep off important leaders in TDP seen

NELLORE: With both Anam and Nedurumalli groups keen on seats for their supporters in the coming municipal elections in the district in general and Nellore town in particular, the high command finds itself in a piquant situation.

The scenario in the district Congress has undergone a drastic change with the Anam brothers emerging forerunners to carry on the mantle of the party, in view of their proximity to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The Anams have made deep inroads into Gudur, till now considered bastion of the Visakhapatnam MP, N. Janardhana Reddy. The Anam brothers— Vivekananda Reddy and Ramanarayana Reddy — have roped in Meera Reddy, whose wife was Gudur chairperson till recently. The scene has now shifted to Hyderabad, with both groups presenting their points of view. The Nedurumalli group has no particular stronghold in the corporation. A clear picture is likely to emerge only on Wednesday, after a discussion with the party's State incharge, Digvijay Singh.

    Situation in TDP

The scenario in the TDP too is no better, following emergence of a theory that only one candidate from one family should file nomination. This strategy is seen as a move to keep off important functionaries like K. Srinivasulu Reddy from the race and favour the previous chairperson, T. Anuradha.
