HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee has urged the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, to nominate all 21 members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) instead of holding elections to the posts. It also urged the other PCCs in the country to adopt similar resolutions. Drafted in the presence of the AICC general secretaries -- Digvijay Singh and Ambika Soni -- ahead of the Congress plenary to be held here from October 20 to 23, the resolution was read out at the general body meeting of the PCC. The PCC president, K. Keshava Rao, the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the Rajya Sabha member, V. Hanumantha Rao and the AICC secretary, Jeyakkumar, were present. The resolution praised the leadership qualities of Sonia Gandhi and her sacrifices and urged the Congress leaders `in all States' to clear the decks for the nomination of members to the CWC.
Stadium inspected
The Congress leaders then proceeded to inspect the proposed venue of the plenary, Balayogi Stadium Complex, which is to be named `Rajiv Pranganam' for the purpose of the session. The APCC was directed to ensure `functional austerity' in making the arrangements and make the session `citizen friendly, traffic friendly and eco-friendly.'
