Phones to be transferred

NEW DELHI: Nearly 660 landline telephones of Udyog Bhavan and adjoining areas will be transferred from MTNL's Sena Bhavan telephone exchange to the new state-of-the-art exchange at Nirman Bhavan at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. As a result, all phone numbers starting with 23792/3/4 will be changed to 23061/2/3.

MTNL has informed all affected subscribers individually. Information about changed numbers can also be had by dialling 1951 and 1952. For more information, subscribers can contact DGM (Janpath) at 9868136000 or 9868137007.

New CEO for BYPL

NEW DELHI: Arun Kanchan has taken over as the new Chief Executive Officer of the private power distribution company, BSES Yamuna Power Limited. An alumnus of IIT Kanpur, he will be the overall in-charge of the 14 divisions of the company covering East and parts of Central Delhi. He will be stationed at the BYPL headquarters at Karkardooma.

Award for BHEL

NEW DELHI: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has become the first public sector undertaking as well as the first engineering and manufacturing organisation in the country to have won the coveted `Best of its Class' distinction from the International Asia Pacific Quality Organisation (APQO).

BHEL's Ranipet plant has won the recognition in the big manufacturing category as part of the International Asia Pacific Quality Award (IAPQA - 2005), wherein more than 50 countries participated.

Awards presented

NEW DELHI: The Dr. Radhakrishnan Value Education Committee felicitated Prof. N.N. Pillai, Dr. Promodini Verma, Prof. K.C. Khemka, G.S. Negi, Dr. N.K. Jain and Acharya Bhagwan Dev Vedalankar here on Monday for their dedication to quality and value education in their respective fields.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief coordinator of the Dr. Radhakrishnan Value Education Award Committee, Prof. S.S. Shashi, said the award committee had taken the lead to propagate value education in the country and abroad.

While the director of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Veeraraghavan, asked intellectuals to join hands in the mission to propagate value education, the director of National Bal Bhavan, Madhu Pant, presented certificates to the awardees.

Held with illicit liquor

NEW DELHI: One person has been arrested by the West Delhi police for allegedly carrying illicit liquor in a dumper truck.

Acting on a tip-off, the police had laid a trap near Senior Secondary School in Hari Nagar on Monday night. After midnight, the suspected truck appeared on the scene. When the police flagged it down, the driver stopped the vehicle and fled.
