Calm before storm in Adilabad

Staff Reporter

Campaigning will start only after finalisation by parties of the list of the candidates after September 9.

ADILABAD: The comparatively noiseless political activity on Tuesday with regard to the municipal elections in Adilabad can be likened to the proverbial calm before the storm.

However, like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle the official processes for conducting the elections began falling into their place.

The general observer appointed by the State Election Commission for the six municipalities in Adilabad, P.M. Kuriakose, got going about the assignment here on Tuesday.

The election machinery in the district too set itself to the task with the District Revenue Officer B. Bharati Lakhpati Naik and others readying the electronic voting machines. At the party level, the aspiring candidates held meetings with those who mattered within the organisation.

Huddled conferences were witnessed at the party offices of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Congress, the Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other minor players like the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

The real campaigning is slated to start only after the September 9 finalisation of the list of contesting candidates.

Personal contact mission

As against this, independents who are really serious about their candidature have started their personal contact mission. These independents can be seen going door to door trying to woo the voters.

There are interesting reports about the independents offering inducements.

Most of them, however, offer to contribute to the local temple. One such independent offered a blank cheque to the locality temple management, it is learnt.

The activity will be more vigorous on Wednesday because of the Ganesh Chaturthi.
