KARIMNAGAR: The `cold war' between the Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi is to the fore at the Zilla Parishad general body meeting with the ZPTC members making charges against each other's leaders here on Tuesday. During the discussion on the SRSP waters for khariff season, the Government Whip, D Sridhar, said that the State Government had accorded top priority for completion of irrigation projects of Telangana region on the river Godavari.
No allocation
He said that the Government was taking up the Sripada Sagar project (Yellampalli) and the SRSP flood flow canal and taking measures to provide irrigation to each and every acre of land in Karimnagar district by linking the Yellampalli project with the Pranahita river. Immediately, the TRS co-option member, Haji Bhai, refuted the claims and said that the Government had only laid the foundation stone for the Yellampalli project and there was no budgetary allocation. He charged that the Government had failed to take up an inch of work on the Yellampalli project. Irked over this, the Congress ZPTC members raised to the occasion and argued with the TRS leaders. Pandemonium prevailed at the meeting for about 20 minutes with the Congress and the TRS making charges against their leaders, K Chandrashekhar Rao and Y S Rajashekhar Reddy. The Congress leaders alleged that Mr Chandrashekhar Rao was enjoying power at the blessings of the Congress. The TRS leaders charged that the Congress had won elections in the region only because of alliance with the TRS. Following the intervention by the chairman, K V Rajeshwara Rao, the Congress member, Madhu, had condemned the statements made by the TRS leaders. He clarified that the Congress had the credit of taking up several developmental works in the State in general and Karimnagar district in particular. Later, when TRS members demanded a debate, the chairman refused and continued other business activities.
