Erode school gets award

CHENNAI: The special school run by the Kongu Arivalayam Trust, Erode, received the Kumara Rajah M.A.M. Muthiah Chettiar Birthday Commemoration Award here on Tuesday.

About 180 mentally challenged children receive special education and vocational training at the school. The award and cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh was presented by Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar Memorial Trust on the 77th birthday anniversary of Kumara Rajah M.A.M. Muthiah Chettiar.

Presenting the award and the citation, S. Natarajan, former Supreme Court judge, lauded the efforts of the organisation. M. Rajaram, director of Rural Development department said the birth anniversary was an occasion not only to celebrate but also to reach out to the underprivileged.

Accepting the award, R. Rajendran, correspondent of the Kongu Arivalayam Trust, said the cash prize would be used for the welfare and employment of mentally challenged children, he said. M.A.M. Ramaswamy, pro-chancellor of Annamalai University and M.A.M.R. Muthiah, president of the Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar Trust participated.
