MANGALORE: The Karantaka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) here has appealed to people to take steps to ensure that Vinayaka Chaturthi is celebrated without polluting water bodies in towns and villages. According to the written appeal, Ganesha idols are generally painted with metallic paints containing lead and chromium, which are toxic and pollute the water bodies, when idols are immersed into them. Consumption of this water will have serious effects on the health, the appeal added. The appeal suggested that those idols painted with vegetable-based natural colours be bought and immersed in a bucket of water.
