Polavaram: Court asks State to file counter

HYDERABAD:
A Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court directed the Government to file counter affidavit in the writ petition challenging the works going on the right main canal of Polavaram (Indira Sagar) project on Godavari.
The writ petition was filed by the farmers of West Godavari and Krishna districts.
They alleged that there had been no environment clearances and the authorities could not go ahead with works, which were not approved under the statute.
The bench felt that the Government's response was necessary to further adjudicate the matter.
