Workshops on Child Sexual Abuse from September 12

Staff Reporter

Through personal safety education on September 14

CHENNAI: Tulir - Center for the Prevention and Healing of Child Sexual Abuse is organizing a series of Workshops on Child Sexual Abuse here from September 12 to 17.

According to the schedule, a two-day workshop on awareness begins on September 12, the workshop on child sexual abuse through personal safety education on September 14, on introduction to therapeutic interventions on September 15 and 16 and on using Bible-based curriculum for preventing and healing child sexual abuse on September 17.

Alarming

Organisers say Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) is alarming, abhorrent and very often an unimaginable issue but the reality of the situation is that it exists. A society's integrity and worth is not based on whether cases of abuse exist. Unfortunately, they exist in silence due to stigma.

Tulir feels that steps need to be taken to proactively respond in a timely and appropriate way. The acceptance of the problem ensures that children may benefit from caring and foresight

The Workshop on Awareness and Responding to Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) would give a basic understanding of CSA by discussing the various aspects of the issue and their convergence to form a composite picture.

The workshop outcomes would be an increased awareness of child sexual abuse, its causes, victims, effects, and strategies for prevention, effective responses, and most importantly, an understanding that child sexual abuse is not only a problem for the victim, but is also a problem for the entire community.

Lois J. Engelbrecht, Founder and Consultant - Centers for Prevention and Treatment of Child Sexual Abuse in Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam will be the trainer.
